Networking, Professional Development, and Engagement Are Key Benefits of PRSA Detroit Membership

Posted on Feb. 28, 2023  /   0

Thanks to PRSA and the Detroit Chapter, I have expanded my network of public relations colleagues both locally and nationally. I value these relationships, built over time. Importantly, I have learned from colleagues and the examples they set as role models. Further, attending PRSA Detroit professional development programs over the years has been another highlight.

Professional development, networking, and more

As a volunteer-led professional organization, PRSA Detroit continues to evolve to meet member needs at all stages of their careers. Our chapter has a strong foundation with a committed group of board and committee members who work hard behind-the-scenes to bring added value to members. I can speak from experience, that joining a committee is a great way to meet members and share time and expertise with PRSA Detroit.

We know there is no replacement for in-person networking! Our Programs and Diversity Committees, for example, have planned some excellent programs and networking events this year.

Notably, professional development and networking opportunities are a couple of ways PRSA Detroit provides value to members. Our website also is a go-to resource for job postings, blog articles and more. At the same time, the PRSA national website is a trove of resources to explore.

Inviting public relations colleagues to join PRSA and the Detroit Chapter

While PRSA Detroit is a robust chapter, we all know there are public relations professionals who are not members. As public relations professionals, we need to advocate for our profession and invite our colleagues to join PRSA and the Detroit Chapter. I know of a recent example of a PRSA Detroit member who said to a friend that he needed to join – and he did! Moreover, the new PRSA Detroit member has joined a committee and will be a featured speaker at an upcoming program.

This year, I am focused on having conversations with public relations colleagues (including new professionals) to encourage membership in PRSA and the Detroit Chapter. I hope you will join me to help grow our Chapter membership!

Membership level reminders

There are various PRSA membership types (and fees) available for new professionals, those who are at retirement status and more. Organizations also can join in a group membership. Those with five or more potential new members would receive a reduced rate.

Remember, Detroit Chapter dues are $80 in addition to PRSA national dues.

I look forward to seeing you at a future PRSA Detroit program!
