Spooky Storytelling 101

Did you know Michigan was recently named one of the most haunted states in the U.S.? With spooky season approaching this weekend we had a very fitting event to prepare! We heard from PRSA Detroit board member Jeff Adkins about the Detroit Paranormal Expeditions (DPX). Yes, we’re talking ghosts, paranormal experiences and more, across the metro Detroit area and nationally. Here’s what I learned:

• Terminology

  • Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) – something you can only hear via recording (not in the moment; creepy!)

  • Audible Voice Phenomena (AVP) – something you can hear in the moment

• The Whitney, Formal Naval Air Station on Grosse Ile, Eloise, Atwater in the Park, Beaver Island, Iron County Historical Museum, Madison Seminary & The Anchorage are all allegedly haunted!

The coolest part: Jeff applies his media relations skills to garner awareness of their findings, events and more. DPX has appeared on local news and even national news (including the Discovery Channel!) to cover their findings and experiences. This is such a cool application of the skills we use in our ‘day job’ into our hobbies/passions.
