Tips On How To Practice Self-Care as a PR Professional

Posted on Sep. 12, 2023  /   0

As PR professionals, we can sometimes feel stretched thin. Being on call so often can take a toll on our performance in our personal and professional lives. In recognition of National Self-Care Awareness Month, it’s important that you prioritize your health and well-being. By practicing self-care, you can avoid burning yourself out and get back on your work grind. Making time for yourself outside of work can boost your energy, ease stress and help fight anxiety. Here are a few ways you can practice self-care:

Disconnect with work and reconnect with yourself

I get it – a PR professional’s phone is never turned off. To disconnect, push past the urges of needing to check email and set a night-time timer that will limit screen time. You can also consider leaving electronics in another room while you sleep. Any method that will prevent you from consistently answering those emails can be helpful.

Find your passion outside of the office

It’s common for professionals to fall into a rabbit hole with their work. Being passionate about work is great, but making it revolve around your whole existence can have a negative effect on your personal life. Find something outside of work you are passionate about. Examples include exercising, crafts, travel, music or reading. Take time to nurture your passions. By pursuing things outside of your career, you can inevitably spark more creativity within your work.

Spend time with friends and loved ones

Surrounding yourself with friends and family is a great way to break away from your work to-do list. Whether you simply chat or grab a cup of coffee during lunch or do an activity, find time to be with others outside of work. Having a positive relationship with others will ultimately impact you personally and professionally.

Practicing self-care comes in many forms. Remind yourself this month to take it easy and make sure you are prioritizing your well-being. Happy National Self-Care Awareness Month! You’ll find me brushing up on my baking skills.
