Looking Ahead: Member Opportunities

As we enter Q4, my focus is to finish my 2021 president’s term strong by continuing to keep value to members and sponsors at the forefront of all that we do. In my last blog post, I shared my story about my own involvement in PRSA, how the more I showed up and got involved, the more value my membership provided to me. I’d like to encourage members and sponsors to add value by serving as a volunteer on a committee, staying for the virtual networking after programs, and providing content in a blog post.
I recently attended the national PRSA Assembly, in which one of the speakers talked about seeing membership dues as an investment rather than an expense. This resonated with me. It got me thinking about the difference between expenses and investments. An expense simply costs you money; an investment is supposed to make you money. I challenge you to think of membership dues as a choice, a door opener that helps to propel business connections and opportunities forward.
I’m working closely with the board of directors and incoming chapter president, Michelle Gilbert, to pave a smooth path toward 2022 leadership. Please save the date and plan to attend the annual meeting taking place virtually on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. We will vote in the 2022 board of directors, recognize some of our chapter’s best and brightest with the Hall of Fame Award, Hefty Award, and Nancy Skidmore Award, as well as announce our scholarship recipient!
We also took a look at our program promotion, email communication and member cultivation processes, and have made a move to make these processes seamless and digital. I’d like to thank Secretary TaQuinda Johnson and the website, membership and program committees who worked together to research and present to the board association management platform options, and then build it out. I’m pleased to announce our new website is now live at PRSADetroit.org, and its new capabilities will make program promotions, RSVPs, payments, and member cultivation much more seamless.
Finally, I’d like to thank our valued members, sponsors and partners for their support and collaboration this year. I wish you all a very happy holiday, a Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
