How To Prepare for a Job Interview

Posted on Aug. 20, 2023  /   0

So, you’ve landed a job interview. What now? Getting a job interview is just the first step. Nailing the interview is what matters. To truly leave an interview feeling confident you’ve scored the position, preparation is key. To demonstrate this, here are a few ways to prepare and feel confident going into your interview.

Researching the organization

Research. Research. Research. It can’t be said enough. Researching the organization is vital before jumping into an interview. It’s as simple as doing a quick Google search of the company and scrolling through the organization’s social media. Take time to learn about their values, projects, clients and company culture. At the end of the day, remember that you are seeing if this position is right for you, so pull all the stops when researching the organization.

Research will also provide you bonus points during the interview. If you can talk about a company’s clients and initiatives, it shows that you are interested in the position beyond the job description.

Determining what you’re looking to gain within the role

During the interview, you’ll likely be asked why you’re interested in the particular role. Make sure you determine what you're looking to gain from this role and convey your interest. Think about how the job aligns with your strengths, achievements and work abilities.

Be ready to sell yourself

In any interview process, you must sell yourself. This can be intimidating for some, but if done right, you can make a lasting impression. When selling yourself, get comfortable with discussing your achievements. Provide examples of accomplishments in your career, showcase your drive and stay enthusiastic.

It is important to note that when you sell yourself, make sure you’re keeping in mind the needs of the company. Think about what you have to offer that they are looking for in a candidate.

Prepare insightful, detailed questions

At the end of your interview, you’ll most likely be asked, “Do you have any questions?” This is your time to shine. Prepare at least 5-10 questions for your interview. The familiar saying less is more doesn’t apply here. More is more. You never know – some of your questions may be answered during the interview. By having extra questions, you’ll be prepared.

Make sure when coming up with questions, they are specific to the job you are applying for. This will show that you are curious and want to learn more from the interviewer. Below are some questions you can consider asking:

  • Can you tell me about your company culture?
  • What opportunities are available for continued education?
  • Can you tell me about the team I will be working with?
  • How does your company adapt to changes within the industry?
  • What are the current goals that the company is focused on, and how does this team aid in reaching them?

By following these tips, you're well on your way to leaving a great impression and acing that interview. Bonus tip: Don't forget to write a thank you letter when you get home.
