Help Us Commemorate PRSA’s 75th Anniversary

Posted on May. 10, 2022  /   0

Fun, impressive fact: PRSA Detroit is one of the first five chapters to form in the United States. And this year, PRSA nationally celebrates 75 years of advancing the profession and its professionals.

While the national association was officially formed in 1947, historical documents from our own archive indicate that some of our professional ancestors got together two years earlier to create a local PR association.

Whether Detroit PR pros have been coming together to network and collaborate for 75 or 77 years, this is a milestone worth celebrating and reflecting on.

I, myself, have worked in the profession for more than 30 years. I have witnessed and experienced firsthand so many changes in our industry from shrinking newsrooms to the introduction and explosion of social media. I remember mailing and faxing press releases to reporters. I think I still have actual newspaper clippings of coverage I secured.

Whether you are retired from your PR career or celebrating 75 days in your first job, here’s a toast to all PR pros and communication gurus. We would like to hear from you. Please share what the 75th anniversary means to you as well as a photo, and we will feature your response in a special social media campaign commemorating this magnificent milestone.

Thank you for your role advancing our profession with integrity.

Michelle Gilbert is vice president of public relations for Comcast’s Heartland Region. She is also president of PRSA Detroit.
