Five Things I Love About Working for The Cable Guy

You would not think that working for a cable company could be fun and satisfying. It seems like everybody has a poor customer experience story (many decades old) they want to share with you as soon as they learn who your employer is.
But, eight-and-a-half years later I still love my job for so many reasons. So, I picked my top five.
Every day is different.
From introducing new products and educating consumers how to get faster WiFi in their homes to expanding service to unserved rural areas and being a part of transformative initiatives that improve digital equity, I am privileged to help shape stories that I believe add value to people’s lives.
My team and colleagues are awesome.
For most people, work pressures and demands require that we are connected 24x7. And long gone are the 8-5 workdays with an hour for lunch. But when you like the people with whom you work – be it on Teams or in person – it makes everything more gratifying.
I work for a company that values both internal and external communications – A LOT!
I’m the kind of girl who needs to feel like my contribution matters. Let us face it: When you work in corporate PR versus an agency, we are overhead. We are not considered revenue generators. We, in communications, understand how our work benefits the company. But not every executive understands how critical effective communication is to an organization. You cannot put a price tag on feeling appreciated.
Comcast invests in me
This company encourages ongoing leadership training and education. I appreciate the support and flexibility my company has afforded me as I have managed the role of PRSA Detroit president. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to participate in phenomenal leadership programs where I have met some of the most inspiring people from across the county with whom I stay in touch and continue to leverage their inspiring expertise.
I am empowered to take calculated risks.
Nobody likes to fail, but I truly believe – and preach to my team – that we cannot be afraid to fail; otherwise, we would never be willing to take risks and try new ideas, which ultimately drives impactful results.
