Celebrating Black History All Year

At, PRSA Detroit, we believe that Black History is American History and should be celebrated all year long. Just because Black History Month came to a close for 2022, that doesn’t mean the work, research, inclusivity efforts and storytelling needs can stop. We must do more and remain dedicated to ensuring that Black History is celebrated 365 days of the year.
In an effort to keep the momentum going, here are some ways to continue celebrating the contribution Black History has made throughout our industry and most importantly, our world.
- Learn about notable Black PR pos and historical leaders at large.
- The Museum of Public Relations offers lots of great resources for deepening knowledge about incredible Black practitioners.
- Visit a Black history museum. A great local offering is The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
- Check out Voices4Everyone via PRSA for resources and ideas on how to continue momentum all year long.
- Support Black-Owned businesses, large and small, for a wide range of goods and services. There are so many incredible ones in metro Detroit. Here are a few local listicles/ideas.
- Read books by Black authors. Professional and personal development is crucial in our industry. Here are a few of our favorite reads as of late by impactful authors.
- The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
- I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown
- How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
- Becoming by Michelle Obama
- We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- Donate to causes rooted in anti-racism and/or that support Black communities:
Ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are an essential part of your journey throughout the year is critical to our industry. What are you doing to extend Black History Month?
